Foraging Map - Sacramento Foraging Locations

A map of public locations where I have found wild edible produce around the Sacramento area.  I am only noting the locations on this map of "public" locations, either within parks, open areas, or vacant lots.

Yes, I am giving away my foraging locations to the internet world. If I see crowds surrounding my fig patch, then at least people are out foraging rather than sitting on their couch eating twinkies.

Please, get outside!  Do not let anything go to waste!

    There are grapefruits and mandarins in Mission Oaks Recreation Park - just south of Mission and Whitney.

    We picked a couple gallons of blackberries today in the William B. Pond Recreation Area along the north shore of the Sacramento River (just east of American River High School.) From the parking lot at the end of Harrington Way walk due east on the main walking trail about 1000 feet. The patch we hit is on the north side of the trail where it takes a steep turn to the north as it approaches the pond. The patch is very deep in the middle. At one point I found myself up to my hips in old brambles reaching up over my head to pick berries - but they were worth it.

    Thank you, Jeremy, for your map, and, of course, everyone else, too. The following may've already been mentioned: Fennel at the river's best during Spring. The uninitiated can stop by a big produce section to ID fennel. If you're somewhere and smell licorice, fennel's likely nearby. Please err on the side of paranoia --- people have even seen cougars in Rancho Cordova. If it looks like fennel but has dark splotches, it's poisonous.
